In most Bantu languages, the object complement is currently expressed by  means of an object marker inserted within the verbal base, and whose use and syntactic constraints vary depending on languages. In Atsi, a dialect of Fang spoken in Gabon, the object complement is expressed without any particular marker. The syntactic constraints linked to the presence of the verbal auxiliaries (tense markers), word order, and also to the semantic value of the objects basically determine the notion of transitivity through processes of infixation or suffixation to the verb.

This paper seeks to make a statement on the notion of object in Atsi from the data of the languages and the criteria used in Bantu languages. It also seeks to clarify the functioning and the morphological and syntactic constraints which characterize transitivity in this language.
