This paper is a study of singular and plural in nouns as used in Soninke of Mauritania, a Mande language also spoken in Senegal and Mali. The aim of the study is to analyse the nouns both at the morphological, synchronic and diachronic levels and to identify the morphemes associated, particularly those used for the singular and for the plural. Soninke nouns do not use several morphemes of singular and plural, as West Atlantic languages, but only two morphemes, -ø and -nù, as Northern Mande languages. The study discuses other studies previously published.
