This paper is a study of nominal groups (two-noun formations) as used in Soninke of
Mauritania, a Mande language also spoken in Senegal and Mali. The aim of the study is to
analyse the formations both at the theoretical and descriptive levels. Soninke nominal groups
are subjected to associative and determinative patterns of formation, in which are reduplicative (called pluralisative by the author), distributive, comitative, co-ordinative and alternative groups on the one hand, and completive, qualificative, appositive (called assimilative by the author) and comparative groups on the other. The study discusses and completes other studies previously published.
